Your first treatment will include a full consultation so that I can understand your medical history and tailor the treatment to your own specific needs. If appropriate, I may also carry out a postural assessment to give me some clues as to what might be going on with your body.
No two treatments are the same - I don't follow a set 'routine', but instead devise a session according to your individual needs at that particular time. This might involve deep muscle work to release specific areas of tension, specific sports massage techniques, stretches and mobilising movements to improve flexibility and restore range of movement to the joints, or a more soothing treatment to help you through a particularly stressful time. I may also give you some simple exercises to do at home to help stretch or strengthen certain muscle groups to reinforce the benefit of the treatment.
Several treatments may be necessary, depending on the nature of the problem and how long it has been ongoing. Many of my clients find that they benefit from regular sessions - the effects are cumulative, and it also means that any potential problem areas can be identified and addressed early on before they become, quite literally, a pain!
Sessions typically last around 1 hour, with slightly longer for the first appointment.
Occasionally it may be necessary to consult your Doctor or other members of your healthcare team before commencing treatment.
Massage can often complement other therapies, such as chiropractic and osteopathy, by helping the soft tissues to prepare for, and adjust to, any manipulations.
